As you may know, I have occasionally been writing for a local website called
Berkeleyside. One of my primary contributions is a column called Scouting Berkeley, in which I cover my local adventures, scouting out cool new places in this fair city of mine. My most recent post covered the trip
Emily and I took to
Ohmega Salvage, and she took so many wonderful pictures, I wanted to share some here, since they didn't all make it into the slideshow on my post.
Enjoy!
That place looks so cool! It reminds me of my favorite place in Eugene, Bring Recycling. Although, bring focuses a little more on construction materials. Lovely pictures btw, you look like you haven't aged a day since college!
ReplyDeleteAw, gee thanks, Gabe! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOhmega has a ton of building (though not really construction) materials...lots of things you would use to build/redo a house. Siding, doors, windows, tile, hinges, etc. There were so many "if only" moments!
OMG I want that boar! <3 I think I've actually heard of this place...I believe Jonathan's parents got some vintage bathroom fixtures here for their house, a darling little 1910s arts & crafts bungalow in Oakland...
ReplyDeleteErin - the boar doubles as a PIGGY BANK. And there were two of them. Is that awesome or what? I think it's amazing. Also, if Jonathan's parents want to give me their bungalow, I'll take it off their hands. For free, of course.
ReplyDeleteWhat I wouldn't give for an early 20th century arts & crafts/craftsman-style bungalow!
Nice pics. That looks like my organ.
ReplyDeleteCheck your living room. Maybe it IS your organ. Muah ha ha
ReplyDeleteA piggy bank? TWO OF THEM?! I am SO in.
ReplyDeletewhat is the "follow-rite" contraption? Neat lookin, whatever it is.
ReplyDeleteI vaguely feel like I've been to this place with the props girls at BRT. I could be wrong, but it has a familiar air to it. Neato.
I love these pics and that you are writing for berkeleyside. very cool.
ReplyDeleteKristen - the Follow Rite is a follow spot! All vintage and cool, and apparently still working!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cath :)
Hey Kim, do you know about Urban Ore? Also in Berkeley, like Ohmega but a wee bit less upscale. (And do you know about the East Bay Depot for Creative Re-Use? Not in Berkeley anymore, but pretty close by in the Temescal neighborhood (it's at Telegraph and 43rd or so).)
ReplyDeleteJennifer - I don't know about those places, but Urban Ore is really close to my work.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are totally gorgeous, btw
ReplyDeleteShonelle, Emily is kind of a genius. She's local (San Carlos) if you ever need any professional shots taken!
ReplyDeleteVintage things are really cool. They are immeasurable.
