Laborious

This Labor Day Weekend I...

  • Baked a crazy delicious cake (mine wasn't quite as pretty, but it was damn good)
  • Had a slumber party with my oldest girlfriend
  • Attended a disappointing football game in a beautifully renovated stadium
  • Made the best breakfast sandwiches ever
  • Played with a ton of children
  • Had a ladies' night (complete with the requisite nail polish, chick flicks, and abundant food)
  • Ate an entire box of mac and cheese while watching TLC (ladies' night #2)
  • Exploded a dishwasher hose (more on that later)
  • Organized the cookbooks (more impressive than it sounds)
  • Did several loads of laundry and dishes (whoa baby)
  • Was told multiple times that "there's no rush, of course, you just got married, but you don't want to wait too long to start having babies, you know, there are health risks, and well, you have time, but still"
  • Began a bit of the "clear the living room" organization project (more on that later)
  • Stared into the abyss that is our huge living room closet. It needs so much work.

What did you do on this holiday weekend?
(or non-holiday weekend, if you had to work or aren't in the US)

Ed Note: I forgot to mention that at aforementioned slumber party, I (we) also made homemade French Onion Soup. From scratch. With broth that I had frozen in March after making Corned Beef and Cabbage. From scratch. And we created exactly three portions (me, friend, husband). Not to toot my own horn (toot toot), but I think we might be magical. From scratch.

  1. Ohmygosh that cake looks so yummy. I think I have to make one too! That's what I'm doing lately - making everything I see that looks delicious. And I already have buttermilk! Hooray!

I've also been staring at the abyss lately - ours is the 2nd bedroom. It scares me.

  2. It was super yummy! Make sure it cools all the way though. I had an impatient 6 year old to contend with, so it was still pretty warm, which meant gloppy berries, soft cake, and runny icing. But like I said, delicious.

  3. Thanks for the tip! :) I will have to practice self control and not eat it as soon as I take it out of the oven.

  4. I may or may not have picked off little chunks while it was cooling, but that part goes on the bottom anyway, so nobody noticed! :)

  5. PS is it bad for me to coax my family into helping me control the abyss when they come up to visit next week? ;)
